We are thrilled to share that the Albumism family is expanding with the very welcome addition of Mike Elliott. An accomplished music journalist and passionate album aficionado, Mike infuses his writing with an eloquent, thoughtful reverence for artists and their songcraft. We encourage the Albumism community to keep your eyes peeled for much more from Mike, and in the meantime, check out his debut Albumism article, a thoughtful review of Allison Moorer’s powerful new album Blood.
“I thoroughly enjoy the focus Albumism gives to the album format, and how it offers deep dives into what makes the best albums resonate with listeners,” Mike explains. “I've spent many hours talking, arguing or agreeing with friends over the best—and worst—albums for years, and what makes them so. I love that there's a place for music writers and lovers like myself to converge and discuss the beauty of the album, regardless of genre.”
More about Mike:
Mike is a freelance writer and contributor to a variety of publications. He grew up with music all around and learned to love it all, regardless of genre. His dad turned him on to the soul of Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin as well as the funk of James Brown, while his mom exposed him to Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. He developed a deep love of country music from his grandmother and hard rock from his uncle. When he was 13, he first heard Robert Johnson and from there deep dived into blues. He started in radio as a disc jockey at 16 and spent close to 30 years in the business as Program Director, Operations Manager, and Creative Director for a variety of stations. He's a proud father, husband, and of course, album collector. Follow Mike on Twitter via @mikejelliott.
