We are excited to share that the Albumism family has expanded once again with the very welcome addition of Matthew Hocter. Matthew’s love of music, across a wide range of genres, and penchant for writing about his passions are sure to delight our readers and enhance our ever-evolving platform. We encourage the Albumism community to stay tuned for much more from Matthew, and in the meantime, check out his debut Albumism article in which he reviews Lizzo’s latest album Cuz I Love You.
“For as long as I can remember, music and writing have been integral parts of my life,” Matthew explains. “Albumism not only represents these two incredibly important things, but it’s also a new and fresh platform in an oversaturated and, all too often, very one-dimensional music market.”
More about Matthew:
With a love of writing as a form of escapism from the sleepiness of his hometown of Adelaide (Australia), and music a shared passion among his culturally diverse family, Matthew found himself immersed in Jazz classics like Abbey Lincoln's Abbey is Blue (1959) and Cassandra Wilson's Blue Light 'Til Dawn (1993). These two albums gave him insights into the depths that music could easily dive into, both written and musically.
As a freelance writer and music critic with over fifteen years experience, Matthew has been fortunate enough to review and interview artists from all over the world such as Lady Miss Kier (Deee-Lite), Dianne Reeves, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Cassandra Wilson, Angelique Kidjo and many local Australian artists such as Kate Ceberano and Deni Hines.
His tastes in music are as eclectic as the artists he reviews and he also has a massive passion for House Music, Samba and R&B. Follow Matthew on Twitter via @MatthewHocter.
