More about Kate:
Kate Seldman is a writer, music teacher, and metalhead. Originally from London, England, she was 11 when her family moved to Los Angeles, where she quickly learned that saying the words “banana” and “water” was seemingly all it took for her to make friends in this strange new land. (Try it with an English accent. Apparently it’s hilarious.)
Ever since she was a little girl with her ear glued to her boombox in her childhood bedroom, she has been obsessed with music. She’s grateful to her three older brothers for each introducing her to radically different music: Brother #1 taught her to love Elvis. Brother #2 got her into Napalm Death and obscure Japanese speed metal bands. And brother #3 was all about DC go-go.
She currently teaches music to 3rd through 5th graders at a charter school, where she aims to educate the kids about the fundamentals of music through exposing them to as much great modern music as possible. Some highlights: seeing them rock out to Led Zeppelin, teaching them a 12-bar blues chord progression, and watching their mind-grapes explode when she played them Bad Brains.
Kate lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two sons, two male cats, and one transgender kitty. Follow Kate on Twitter via @lilenglishgirl.
