Wilco have announced that their thirteenth studio album Cousin will be released on September 29th courtesy of dBpm Records. Produced by the acclaimed singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon, the ten-track follow-up to 2022’s Cruel Country is preceded by the melodic lead single “Evicted” and will be supported by summer tour dates across the UK and Europe, followed by a US tour this fall.
“I guess I was trying to write from the point of view of someone struggling to make an argument for themself in the face of overwhelming evidence that they deserve to be locked out of someone’s heart,” frontman Jeff Tweedy shares in an official statement. “Self-inflicted wounds still hurt and in my experience they’re almost impossible to fully recover from.”
Le Bon’s role as Cousin’s producer follows the 2022 release of her widely acclaimed sixth studio album Pompeii. “The amazing thing about Wilco is they can be anything,” Le Bon explains. “They're so mercurial, and there’s this thread of authenticity that flows through everything they do, whatever the genre, whatever the feel of the record. There aren’t many bands who are able to, this deep into a successful career, successfully change things up.”
