NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: The Loyal Seas’ “Swimmers in the Gold”

May is shaping up to be a wonderful month for new music and the forthcoming arrival of The Loyal Seas’ debut album Strange Mornings in the Garden on May 20th is a big reason why. Comprised of Tanya Donelly (of Belly, Throwing Muses and The Breeders fame) and Dylan in the Movies founder & frontman Brian Sullivan, the group unveiled their shimmering single “(So Far from) Silverlake” in February and today they’ve shared its sparse yet sublime successor “Swimmers in the Gold.”

“I handed this song over to Tanya with the lyrics to both verse and chorus but I wasn't feeling the verses,” Sullivan explains in an official statement. “I knew Tanya could take this song to the right place. And of course—she did! Her lyrics and vocals are just so, so beautiful.”

“This song is one of those rare-ish ones when the words come together almost whole-cloth at once, easily inspired by Brian’s beautiful music and his lyrics in the chorus,” Donelly adds. “Sarah Parkington’s pretty pizzicato on this one is perfect.”

Listen to both singles below and be sure to mark May 20th in your calendars.
