Transcending the corporate and legal shenanigans that have plagued her throughout her prolific career, the mighty Taylor Swift is steadily reclaiming ownership of her past recordings and reaffirming her artistic integrity in the process. And we love to see (and hear) it.
Following the re-recording of her 2008 album Fearless, which emerged back in April, Swift has scored yet another triumph by unveiling the ‘Taylor’s Version’ of her critically acclaimed fourth studio album Red (2012). Nominated for Album of the Year honors at the 2014 GRAMMY Awards, the multi-platinum Red marked a thrilling creative transition for Swift, as she successfully evolved her songwriting and sound beyond the country-pop indebted blueprint she established across her first three albums.
Nine years on from its original arrival, the 30-tracks-strong Red (Taylor’s Version) features re-recorded versions of twenty compositions from the deluxe version of the album, six unearthed songs that were originally intended for the album, the 2012 charity single “Ronan,” and an expanded ten-minute version of the fan favorite “All Too Well.” The latter track is accompanied by the just-unveiled fifteen-minute short film written and directed by Swift and starring Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien.
“It never would have been possible to go back & remake my previous work, uncovering lost art & forgotten gems along the way if you hadn’t emboldened me,” Swift recently confided via Twitter. “Red is about to be mine again, but it has always been ours. Now we begin again.”
