With the sparks of inspiration from her critically acclaimed album Next Time still ignited months after its release this past April, Sophie Auster returns this week with the sterling next chapter in her musical evolution. Set for release this Friday, the Brooklyn born-and-bred singer-songwriter’s new EP History Happens At Night features a dynamic double dose of pristine, propulsive pop in the form of singles “If I Could” and “Leave The Door Open.”
“’If I Could’ is about taking a chance on love,” the daughter of celebrated authors Paul Auster and Siri Hustvedt says of the EP’s lead track. “When I described the feeling I wanted to create to my producer Daniel Schlett, I said it should feel as if you are diving off a big mountain with your arms spread, but an invisible net catches you. I wanted to create a feeling of pure exhilaration and joy.”
“’Leave The Door Open’ is about the first and only big fight, to this date, that I’ve had with my husband when we first started dating,” Auster adds. “He left in the middle of the argument and took a bike back home to his apartment in Brooklyn. I was very upset that he didn’t want to stay and have it out, but I also understood that I was in the wrong. The song is about taking ownership of yourself, learning how to apologize, and meeting halfway.”
We’re thrilled to present the early, exclusive world premiere of both songs from Ms. Auster’s History Happens At Night for your listening pleasure below and encourage our readers in Europe to catch her performing these songs (and many more) during her 10-city tour that commences in Freiburg, Germany on November 15th.
