Michaela Anne has unveiled her new album Oh To Be That Free, an absorbing, soul-affirming collection that finds her eloquently traversing the breadth and depth of human emotion with her signature candor, clarity and compassion.
Though recorded prior to an emotionally trying period during which the then-pregnant singer-songwriter’s mother suffered a debilitating stroke, the eleven introspective songs that comprise the follow-up to 2019’s acclaimed Desert Dove LP were soon recontextualized as a form of personal catharsis.
“In the many days and months I sat by my mother’s bedside in the hospital, not knowing if she’d ever be able to speak, walk or resemble her former self, I sang these songs to her, as well as to the baby growing in my belly, over and over,” the Nashville-based musician recalls in an official statement. “I let my own words from the songs sink into my consciousness as though they weren’t my own.”
