STREAM: Hiatus Kaiyote Unveil Taylor McFerrin Remix of “Laputa” featuring Anderson .Paak

April 13, 2016 Albumism Staff

Without question, Hiatus Kaiyote’s sublime 2015 sophomore album Choose Your Weapon is one of the finest albums we’ve heard in the past year and remains in heavy rotation here in the Albumism office. So imagine our giddy delight when we recently learned that the inventive Australian quartet is slated to release a new EP comprised of three reimagined tracks from their lovely long player, plus a remix of their 2013 single “Nakamarra.” The 4-track EP entitled Recalibrations Vol. 1 will be available this Friday, April 15th.

Earlier today, the band offered a preview of the EP by premiering the Taylor McFerrin Remix of “Laputa” via Complex. McFerrin’s stellar reworking contains echoes of the masterful production we last heard on his magical 2014 debut LP Early Riser and features the acclaimed Anderson .Paak’s eloquent verses to boot. (Speaking of the latter, if you haven’t treated your ears to his latest song suite Malibu, an album destined for contemporary classic status, do yourself a huge favor and scoop up a copy right now.)

Stream the Taylor McFerrin remix of “Laputa” below and peep the EP in its entirety this Friday. Also, be sure to catch Hiatus Kaiyote on their current world tour in these cities.
