NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Hannah Jane Lewis’ “Is It Even You?”

June 21, 2019 Albumism Staff

After releasing a steady string of stellar pop singles—most notably the alluring “Aftershock,” “Not Yours Never Was” and “Last Night Every Night”—over the past few years that have helped to raise her profile and broaden her fanbase, Hannah Jane Lewis has returned with a change of musical course. Co-written with Richard Judge and produced by Gil Lewis, the noticeably stripped-down “Is It Even You?” finds the UK singer-songwriter fully embracing a deeper level of introspection, as she grapples with the inevitability of life changes.

“‘Is It Even You?’ is definitely the most honest song I’ve ever written and released,” Lewis explains in an official statement. “It’s about feeling like you’ve lost a friend who’s standing right beside you. It’s coming back home after a while and hoping everything and everyone stayed the same, and then feeling the sting of everything changing. That’s how I was feeling at the time, so this almost feels like a page out of a diary for me.”
