NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Gabrielle’s “Every Step”

February 21, 2019 Quentin Harrison

Artist: Gabrielle
Song: “Every Step”
Album: Under My Skin

Perhaps you’ve heard Gabrielle’s bright, emotive voice on some gem marooned on a soundtrack somewhere. Maybe you were fortunate to enough catch one of her enduring charters on the radio. Either way, as a listener, once Gabrielle’s music has touched you, you can’t forget the woman behind the track.

Gabrielle’s unique way with a song is what has assisted the British vocalist and songwriter in procuring a recording career spanning just a little over 25 years. Of late, Gabrielle has been quite active and shows no signs of slowing down if her recently booked tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland is any confirmation.

Additionally, “Every Step,” the fourth single from her lauded sixth LP Under My Skin (2018), has just impacted and promises to extend the reach of this pristine project. The music video’s tasteful black and white “slice of life” perspective—albeit from the performer’s vantage point—matches appropriately to the compositional scale and scope of the mid-tempo soul-pop number. In all, “Every Step” is just another feather in Gabrielle’s already decorated cap.
