Following years of fruitful collaborative work together in their native Ireland, Fake Miami (a.k.a. John Burke) and Sarah Murray have harnessed their dynamic creative synergy once again in the form of their sublime new single “H2O.”
With evocative lyrics and stunning vocals provided by Murray set within Burke’s hypnotic, lushly orchestrated arrangement, the aquatic-themed song unfolds as an anthem of self-agency and empowerment, framed within allusions to the majesty and power of the ocean. “Focus your mind on the tide / Moving you on / Now you’re on your own side / Relish the freedom to dream / The nothingness feel / Consciousness streaming / Breathe out,” Murray reflects in the song’s second verse.
“Our collaboration began almost by accident—I had an instrumental in need of a voice, and Sarah had words waiting to be sung,” Burke explains in an official statement. “She wrote the lyrics to ‘H20’ on a late-night drive home, and from there our creative chemistry just kept flowing. After years of producing her songs, it felt natural to finally step into this project together. We never tire of the process—if anything, we’re always wishing for more time in the studio, because when the music starts, the songs just seem to come.”
“‘H2O’ was created by accident, you could say,” Murray admits. “John played the track in studio, as I was curious to hear what he had been working on. The music for ‘H2O’ came on and I just said ‘John, I love it, I have so many ideas for this.’ Thankfully, he was very happy for me to work on the track.”
Delving deeper into the song’s meaning, Murray shares that “‘H2O’ is a collaborative mind dive into the depths of the human condition and the subconscious. It’s a simple take on such a complex concept—the symbolism of determination, self-belief and resilience in a world that creates such great challenges and barriers to living freely and at ease.”
