NEW MUSIC WE LOVE: Disclosure’s “ENERGY”

Disclosure have officially announced that their long-awaited third studio album is slated to arrive this summer, nearly five years since the September 2015 release of their GRAMMY nominated sophomore LP Caracal. During this intervening period, the Lawrence brothers have remained plenty productive, however, as they’ve blessed us with a handful of memorable ad hoc tracks over the past few years (listen here and here), in turn properly whetting our appetites and stoking our impatience for their next proper full-length affair.

Due to make landfall August 28th, the forthcoming LP entitled ENERGY features yet another impressive crop of contributors, including Common, Kehlani, Kelis, slowthai, and Syd (of The Internet), among others. And at 11 tracks and 43 minutes deep, ENERGY represents the duo’s most streamlined long player to date, though the final track listing was culled from an expansive reservoir of roughly 200 compositions. A planned deluxe edition includes nine additional songs, including their previously issued collaborations with Khalid (“Know Your Worth” and “Talk”).

“The thing that decided which songs made it and which songs didn’t was that one word: energy,” the brothers explain in an official statement. “Every track was written really quickly. That’s why we had to write so many songs because those ones don’t come up every day. Or every week. Or every month.”

Watch the video for the title track below, plus a few highlights from the pair’s recent live DJ set for BBC Radio 1’s virtual Big Weekend 2020 event.
