Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
ABKCO (2010)
Selected by Andy Healy
An inventive and highly meta film deserves an equally inventive and meta soundtrack album, and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World delivers. Mixing original songs recorded for the film from Beck, Plumtree and Broken Social Scene with tracks from indie-rock darlings Black Lips and Beachwood Sparks, and classics from the likes of T.Rex and The Rolling Stones, the soundtrack could stand on its own just for these tracks.
But where it gets really meta is in the songs performed by the fictional bands in the film written by the soundtrack’s contributors of Broken Social Scene (Crash and the Boys) and Beck for Scott’s punk-pop Sex Bob-Omb. Highlights include “Garbage Truck,” “Ramona” and the all the way to 11 “We are Sex Bob-Omb.”
