Reality Bites
RCA (1994)
Selected by Andy Healy
The movie that revived “My Sharona” by the Knack, Reality Bites is more than just a one hit soundtrack. Getting the obvious calling card out of the way on track one, Reality Bites plays as a broad reflection of the music of the moment, at least on the rockier alt-pop side of the tracks.
With notable inclusions from The Juliana Hatfield Three, Crowded House, U2, Dinosaur Jr., Lenny Kravitz, and the Posies, the soundtrack offers the perfect escape. The deserved breakthrough of the collection is the soothing lament of “Stay (I Missed You)” by Lisa Loeb that will have you singing along every time you hear it. Big Mountain’s cover of “Baby, I Love Your Way” on the other hand… you can take it or leave it.
