Album Artistry: Celebrating Kylie Minogue's Dynamic Discography

Editor’s Note: From Albumism’s inception back in 2016, we’ve remained unabashedly and unequivocally passionate about our mission of celebrating the world's love affairs with albums past, present and future.

But while our devotion to the album as an art form has remained steadfast, as evidenced by our deepening repository of individual album tributes and reviews, we’ve admittedly seldom taken the opportunity to explicitly articulate our reverence for the virtues of artists’ complete album repertoires as a whole.

Hence why we’ve decided to showcase what we believe to be the most dynamic discographies of all time in this recurring series. In doing so, we hope to better understand the broader creative context within which our most beloved individual albums exist, while acknowledging the full breadth of their creators’ artistry, career arcs, and overall contributions to the ever-evolving musical landscape.

We hope you enjoy this series and be sure to check here periodically for the latest installments.

KYLIE MINOGUE

Studio Albums: Kylie (1988) | Enjoy Yourself (1989) | Rhythm of Love (1990) | Let's Get to It (1991) | Kylie Minogue (1994) | Impossible Princess (1997) | Light Years (2000) | Fever (2001) | Body Language (2003) | X (2007) | Aphrodite (2010) | Kiss Me Once (2014) | Kylie Christmas (2015) | Golden (2018) | DISCO (2020)

While no one could ever deny the unabashed, commercial pop of Kylie (1988) and Enjoy Yourself (1989), they were taken at face value at the time of their respective releases. No one expected Kylie Minogue to last past their inception.

But Minogue’s ceaseless drive to adapt, to grow and to challenge herself paid off with each subsequent project she embarked upon. Now, decades later, Minogue sits upon one of the most consistent canons in popular music.

Like any true mistress of the pop genre, Minogue has hits in every style, from synth-pop to the avant-garde, dance music to country: there is literally something for everyone to partake in if they’re so inclined to do so. DISCO (2020)—Minogue’s most recent collection—finds her taking stock of this oft beloved soundpath in a refreshing light; it also signals that the Princess of Pop is only going to keep adding to her stockpile of sterling recordings moving forward.

Quentin’s 3 Favorite Kylie Minogue Albums of All Time:

1. Kylie Minogue (1994)
2. Body Language (2003)
3. Golden (2018)
